Alpha Naphthol (1-Naphthol) is an organic aromatic compound derived from naphthalene. It appears as white to light yellow crystalline flakes or powder with a characteristic phenolic odor. It is slightly soluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether.
Alpha Naphthol is widely used as an intermediate in the manufacturing of dyes, pigments, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and rubber chemicals. It plays a key role in the production of azo dyes and antioxidants. It is also used in laboratories for biochemical testing such as the Molisch test for carbohydrates.
